4 great places to drink coffee in Hanoi

Hanoi has plenty of great places to delve into the local culture and simply relax with a good cup of coffee. Vietnam has nearly 150 years of coffee growing and brewing experience, so it is hardly a surprise the locals have learned the art of producing a perfect cup of coffee. No matter where you are travelling on the Vietnam private tour, you are certain to be close to a coffee shop or similar that is ready to serve a freshly brewed cup of caffeine-rich goodness.

Here are a few of the great places for coffee in Hanoi:

Giang Café (No.39 Nguyen Huu Huan, Hoan Kiem District)

Giang Café is hidden on a small lane in the city’s Old Quarter district and a favourite with Hanoi’s local coffee addicts. While it may be difficult for the tourists to find, it is certainly worth the effort to taste not only the traditional coffee brews, but also specialties like ca phe trung (Vietnamese egg coffee).

Ca Phe Xom (Pho Hang Tre 3)

The stylish Ca Phe Xom has a very hip and comfortable vibe and sits on the edge of the Old Quarter. It has a photography-theme with camera decor and lovely colours, and a popular destination for local. But it is still very open and friendly to travellers that want to pop in. Cafe Xom is still a relatively unknown place in Hanoi and serves only drinks and snacks. In addition to the delicious, yet cheap coffee, the snacks include a yogurt and black sweet rice dessert and avocado smoothie.

Sen Café (58 Nguyen Huu Huan Street)

A great sugary-sweet coffee drink to enjoy on the Vietnam family tour is certain to include a cup of ca phe sua da (Vietnamese iced coffee). This is popular with locals and available at virtually every road side café from Halong Bay to the Mekong Delta.

Tourist can easily relax in any restaurant, street stall, or café with a sign reading ca phe, but a really friendly place to visit is Sen Café – although it is often crowded and busy. The coffee brewed in this cafe includes a wide selection of fresh beans to really tailor the cup of coffee the match the specific needs. But, you may wish to stick to some of the well-known brews. For instance, the ca phe Chon relies on beans sourced from the faecal matter civets and weasels.

Reng reng café (12 Ly Nam De, Hang Ma, Hoan Kiem)

With such a wide range of things to see and do in Hanoi, it can be difficult to justify a lot of time to simply sit and watch the locals go about their everyday lives. But, Reng reng café is one of the most popular places to visit for great tasting coffee, as well as friendly and warm staff and a setting that has a very distinct character. This café and atmosphere is very Hanoi, while still being very unique in its own right.

If you are looking to taste your coffee with something different to condensed milk, and looking for a bit of European flavour, the brew options in Reng reng café are wide ranging with a choice of espressos and cappuccinos.
